The Tohoku University Graduate School of Education aims to nurture researchers and highly-skilled professionals who can acutely register social needs and address problems by themselves, through high-level, specialized knowledge and skills related to education, and possess the ethical and theoretical foundations that support them. With this in mind, when accepting students, we determine parameters for the General Selection Program, Special Selection Program for Working Adults and Special Selection Program for Foreign Students, when implementing entrance examinations. Selections will be made with an emphasis on whether or not applicants have the high-level of abilities and qualities required for carrying out research in line with our educational principles and goals.
Specifically, we seek those aspiring to become highly-skilled professionals who can contribute to society with specialized knowledge and skills supported by ethical and theoretical foundations, and researchers who will contribute to new discoveries in educational science.
The examinations of the General Selection Program for the Master’s Programs of the doctoral course will include a written test to evaluate the applicants’ specialized knowledge and reading comprehension of foreign language documents in their respective fields, as well as an interview to evaluate their research plans and ambitions. The selection will focus on evaluating specialized knowledge and research plans in particular. The examinations of the Special Selection Program for Working Adults for the Master’s Programs of the doctoral course will include a written examination to evaluate applicants’ logical cognitive abilities and written expressiveness (examinations for the Clinical Psychology course will also evaluate specialized knowledge), as well as an interview to evaluate their research plans and ambitions. The selection will focus on evaluating logical cognitive abilities and research plans in particular. (Examinations for the Clinical Psychology course will also focus on specialized knowledge.) The examinations of the Special Selection Program for Foreign Students for the Master’s Programs of the doctoral course will include a written examination to evaluate applicants’ Japanese language reading comprehension and written expressiveness (examinations for the Clinical Psychology course will also evaluate specialized knowledge), as well as an interview to evaluate their research plans and ambitions. The selection will focus on evaluating Japanese language reading comprehension and research plans in particular. (Examinations for the Clinical Psychology course will also focus on specialized knowledge.)
In addition, we also request that applicants acquire basic knowledge and basic methodologies of their specialized field before enrollment.
The examinations of the General Selection Program for the Doctoral Program of the doctoral course will include a written test to evaluate the applicants’ reading comprehension of foreign language documents relating to their specialized field, as well as an interview to evaluate the contents of their reference thesis, research plans and other information. The selection will focus on evaluating applicants’ reference theses and research plans in particular.
The examinations of the Special Selection Program for Working Adults for the Doctoral Program of the doctoral course will include an interview to evaluate applicants’ reference thesis, research plans and other information (examinations for the Global Education course will also evaluate reading comprehension of foreign language documents), and selections will be made based on the evaluation of both the applicant’s reference thesis and research plans.
In addition, we also request that applicants refine their understanding of the publications, and acquire methodologies, related to their research themes prior to enrollment.
