Exploring the Profoundly Human Phenomenon of Education from Every Perspective
The Graduate School of Education at Tohoku University is one of the few institutions in Japan authorized to grant doctoral degrees in Education. It serves not only regular students but also faculty from domestic and international universities and professionals who are actively engaged in specialized fields in society.
In response to changes in the social environment and the diverse needs of students, the research courses were reorganized in April 2018 to deepen their specialization while fostering collaboration, allowing for more theoretical and practical research.
To accommodate diverse forms of learning, the school offers a range of systems, including special admissions for working professionals, short-term and long-term study options and various scholarship programs.
Additionally, student support systems are well-developed, creating a conducive research environment for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. For example, since 2007, the Graduate School of Education has independently provided financial support for graduate students presenting one's research at international conferences.
Tohoku University as a whole also established the "Institute for Advanced Study" in 2004, providing scholarships and research funds to selected graduate students. This allows students to engage in pioneering interdisciplinary research alongside top-level students from other faculties while being enrolled in the Graduate School of Education.
