Asia Education Leader Course Summer 2025 successfully hosted by Korea University
The Summer 2025 Asia Education Leader Course, held at Korea University from August 11-20, concluded successfully with 49 participants from five member universities. The 10-day course featured three subjects: (A-P) Comparative Education: Issues from International Large-scale Assessments and (S-P) Utilization of International Large-scale Assessment Data for Education Research taught by Prof. Pey-Yan Liou, and (K-P) Transforming Education in Global Contexts taught by Prof. Heeyoung Lee & Dr. Hyojin Lee.
The A-P subject, which ran from August 11-13, grounded student understandings in the foundations of comparative education before exploring emerging trends in the field. The subject featured mini-symposiums from Professor Chen Chen of Nanking Normal University and Professor Jing Liu of Tohoku University, providing diverse perspectives on key topics in comparative education such as the influence of international organizations and global governance.
The S-P subject ran from August 14-16 with focus on quantitative research methods including survey, large-scale dataset analysis and linking methods to research questions. Students presented their analysis of large-scale data sets such as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
The K-P subject helped participants to link the global and the local by developing understanding of key educational issues at the global level then viewing these issues through a local lens. Participants contextualized their learning through fieldwork in the local community by visiting a local high school, then synthesized new knowledge using their global frameworks and local experiences.
Throughout the course, students collaborated and discussed in mixed groups across language and cultural barriers toward the collective goal of deepening understanding of educational issues and directions in Asia, and gaining the analytical tools necessary to shape the future of education in the region.
