AEL2026 Winter Course Pre-study Session 2: Promoting Equity and Quality in Education through Technology-Enhanced Learning
The Asia Education Leader Course (AELC) continued the Winter 2026 Pre-Study Series with a timely lecture from Research Prof. Hyojin Lee of Korea University titled: Promoting Equity and Quality in Education through Technology-Enhanced Learning. The lecture was attended by over 40 participants from all five AELC partner institutions.
Who should become a teacher? What is a good teacher? How can technology enhance, not replace teaching and learning? These questions guided the lecture, structured around Prof. Lee’s own research journey, culminating in the presentation of preliminary findings of a research project that developed a digital literacy framework for elementary students with developmental disabilities. The framework, supported by recent government policy discussions and anchored in literature and a Delphi panel, identified five key indicators of digital literacy. The framework will be implemented in real classrooms to inform future policy and practice in South Korean disability education.
Following the lecture, participants broke out into groups to discuss the following questions:
- How can digital technologies be used to promote equitable and high-quality learning in your educational context?
- What ideas do you have for using AI-digital technologies to support effective teaching and learning in the classroom?
The discussions touched upon core themes in equity and technology in education, such as the role of technology as digital tools for reducing the learning gaps between students of different abilities as well as the urban-rural divide. Further discussions highlighted the role of technology in assessment, helping teachers to see learning gaps in real time. An agenda for future research was also proposed by one of the groups, asserting that a key issue for the future is how to select suitable technologies for diverse student learners.
The AELC Secretariat would like to thank Prof. Lee for the thought-provoking and relevant lecture, and all participants for their enthusiastic engagement.
The next and final Pre-Study Session for the Winter 2026 Course will be held online on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 16:30-18:30 JST. We are honored to have Associate Professor Dr. Fuangarun Preededilok from Chulalongkorn University presenting a lecture on Building Equitable Educational Futures through Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships.
